SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Workforce Services released the September jobs report Friday morning. The unemployment rate for the state increased slightly to 2.1%. Utah added 56,100 jobs in the past 12 months making the current job count 1,681,300.
Nationally, the unemployment rate decreased by two-tenths and sits at 3.5%.
Department of Workforce Services Deputy Director Nate McDonald told KSL's Utah Morning News that overall, September had a strong employment report.
"We did see our unemployment rate tick up ever so slightly from 2.0% to 2.1%, but nothing our economists are concerned about," said McDonald, noting that job growth has remained steady.
"Eight of our 10 measured sectors are all adding jobs. It's lead out by trade, transportation, utilities," said McDonald.
According to McDonald, construction is number two when it comes to adding jobs, followed by education and health.
The sector hit with the biggest job losses was financial activities, losing 2,900 jobs.
