TAYLORSVILLE — A man who police say threatened a woman he met online with multiple weapons when they met in person was arrested in Taylorsville Tuesday.

Zachary David Martindale, 30, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault.

Police were called about 1 a.m. by a woman who said she had just escaped from Martindale. The woman said she had met Martindale online and met up with him at his residence that morning.

When the woman arrived, Martindale exposed himself and demanded a sexual act, according to a police booking affidavit.

"When the victim refused, (Martindale) pointed a crossbow at the victim and told her he would kill her and bury her in his backyard if she did not submit," the affidavit states.

The woman again refused, prompting Martindale to demand cash, according to police. The woman said she gave him $250 and then ran from the house.

However, Martindale ran after her and "tackled the victim in the driveway and threatened her with a knife. The victim fought back and escaped again," the affidavit alleges. Police were contacted and went to Martindale's home where he was questioned and taken into custody.

Tuesday's arrest comes while Martindale was on probation for a 2019 conviction of aggravated burglary.

In that case, Martindale was convicted of going to a co-worker's residence in Midvale, putting machetes through his door and threatening to kill the man's family because the man would not cover one of his shifts. He was given a suspended prison sentence of one to 15 years and placed on three years of probation starting in November of 2019.
