MOAB — Crews on Tuesday recovered the body of a man who was swept away while attempting to help someone across the Colorado River near Moab, police said.

Clay Petty was reported missing at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday near the Potash boat ramp, police said.

"In an attempt to help someone across the river, Mr. Petty was swept downstream," the Grand County Sheriff's Office said in a press release Monday. "At this point, a multiagency search led by Grand County Sheriff's Office has commenced and is ongoing to locate Mr. Petty."

Crews found Petty's body about 10:03 a.m. on Tuesday just over a mile south of the Potash boat ramp, authorities said.
