SALT LAKE CITY — Two vehicle fires caused major delays on Utah highways Monday evening, and officials asked drivers to use alternative routes.

One lane of southbound Interstate 15 near Fillmore remained closed due to a semitruck fire, as of 11:20 p.m., according to the UDOT traffic website. That lane has since reopened.

Another vehicle fire caused by a rollover with occupants being ejected led to westbound delays on state Route 201 near California Avenue in Salt Lake City, officials said.

According to Salt Lake City Fire Cap. Shaun Mumedy, the car was taking the S.R. 201 westbound ramp but missed the turn, rolled into the ravine and caught on fire. The car had three occupants including one adult and two children, Mumedy said. The adult was thrown from the vehicle and sustained critical injuries, the children were in stable condition, and all were transported to area hospitals, Mumedy said.

The fire sparked a nearby grass fire, and three fire engines arrived on scene to assist with it, Mumedy said.

UDOT's traffic website showed no remaining impacts on traffic after 11 p.m. Monday.
