WEST VALLEY CITY — A 14-year-old boy has died from what police believe was "most likely" caused by an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.
West Valley police were called about 10 p.m. Saturday to a home near 3100 South and 4800 West on a report of a possible shot fired. Officers arrived to find a boy had been shot, according to West Valley Police Lt. Steve Beardshall.
Police tweeted later Sunday, saying, "The initial investigation into the shooting death of a 14-year-old West Valley City boy indicates the shooting was accidental. Evidence at the scene points to the accidental nature of the shooting, however, a full investigation will be conducted."
