WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman was arrested in West Valley for allegedly shooting a man in the back as he ran out the door in an attempt to escape, according to police.

It was one of two violent incidents Saturday night in West Valley City. Tuesday evening, police also announced an arrest in a separate homicide investigation.

Over the weekend, Terica Joneil Savas-Caldwell, 39, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of discharging a firearm causing serious injury and assault on a health care worker. Details of her arrest were revealed in a recently released police booking affidavit.

On Saturday, about 9 p.m., police were called to 4440 W. Trinity Ave., where a 48-year-old man had been shot and was found lying in front of the residence, and a 32-year-old man was stabbed multiple times and found in the kitchen. The two men were taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The man who was shot was found "lying face down on the front porch of the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the back," according to a police booking affidavit. The man in the kitchen had a stab wound near his collarbone, the affidavit states. The injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.

Savas-Caldwell claimed that the man who was shot had attempted to sexually assault her and the other man stepped in to stop it, but was then stabbed by the first man, the affidavit states. She then allegedly shot the first man as he tried to run out the door.

Savas-Caldwell fainted while police were at the scene and was taken to a local hospital, according to the affidavit.

"Terica did not wish to speak with officers and attempted to leave the hospital. While being detained, Terica tensed up and refused to stand after several attempts to have her walk back to her room willingly," the affidavit states.

She then kicked a hospital worker, according to the affidavit.

The incident was one of two violent episodes that West Valley police were called to on Saturday night.

About 8:15 p.m. Willie Houston, 59, was stabbed and killed at the Aspenwood Apartments, 4178 S. 4080 West. A tenant called police after "a man who was bleeding badly had knocked on their apartment door," West Valley police said Monday in a statement.

Houston lived at the apartment complex with his girlfriend.

"Witnesses report some sort of dispute occurring between Mr. Houston and his girlfriend's nephew, 30-year-old Deon Jennings, who also lives in the apartment complex, in a separate apartment," police said.

Police asked the public for information on Jennings's whereabouts on Monday. Tuesday, about 8:30 p.m., West Valley police tweeted that Jennings had been arrested for investigation of murder.

"Investigators received a tip regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Jennings. They successfully located him in West Valley City and took him into custody," police tweeted.

Details about his arrest were not immediately available.
