ST. GEORGE — Dixie Technical College Vice President Jordan Rushton has been named as the tech school's interim president, where he will serve until a permanent president is named.

The school's current president, Kelle Stephens, has served in the position since 2012 and in January announced her retirement, effective April 30, when Rushton will take the helm.

The Utah Board of Higher Education anticipates finding a new president by the fall but says it will take the necessary time to find the most qualified candidate.

"Vice Pres. Rushton was selected to serve as interim president for his industry knowledge, expertise and advocacy around the importance of technical education," board chairman Harris H. Simmons said in a statement. "He is highly qualified and well-prepared to take on the interim role at Dixie Technical College. The board is sure he will see Dixie Tech through a successful transition period. We appreciate his dedication to the long-term success of the college."

Rushton has extensive experience in technical education and has served at both the college and statewide levels. Currently, he is vice president of instruction, where, since 2015, he has been overseeing the college's academic and training offerings.

A native of Lehi, Ruston, his wife, Lundi, and their four children reside in St. George.

"I am excited to serve in this capacity and look forward to continuing the important work being done at Dixie Technical College," Rushton said in a statement. "I appreciate the confidence the Board of Higher Education and the Dixie Tech Trustees have shown in me. We have incredible students, dedicated instructors and staff, and outstanding industry partners. I am committed to moving this important work forward."

Dixie Technical College is a public technical training institution located in St. George and is part of the statewide Utah College of Applied Technology system. Dixie Technical College is separate from Utah Tech University, formerly known as Dixie State University.
