SALT LAKE CITY — Operations in temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are going to gradually return to normal, as temporary restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic are ending.
The First Presidency of the church thanked church members for their patience in a letter directed to church leaders around the world. The letter said that the change is due to more people being immunized.
"We are eager to return the temples to full operation as soon as possible," the letter said.
The return to normal will include eliminating the face mask requirement and capacity restrictions, based on local circumstances. Decisions on when these restrictions end will be made by temple presidencies and area presidencies as they consult with the Temple Department.
"We are grateful for the sacred work performed in temples. We trust that our members will rejoice in the lessening of restrictions and will increase their commitment to temple and family history work," the First Presidency said.
The First Presidency invited all temple presidencies to prepare plans to return to full capacity.
