ST. GEORGE — A St. George man was charged Friday with shooting one man and biting him and another man during a fight.

Shiloh Lynn Cody, 48, is charged in 5th District Court with two counts of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; three counts of assault on an officer, a class A misdemeanor; failing to stop for law enforcement, a class B misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor,

St. George police responded to the fight near 1235 W. 360 North about 1:35 a.m. on Thursday.

"While in route, officers learned that a gun had been fired several times during the altercation," according to a police booking affidavit.

The first officer on scene arrived to find three men fighting. He attempted to separate the men but found that Cody "was biting the other subject and would not let go," the affidavit states. The officer used a Taser to stop the assault.

Once the parties were separated, officers learned that a second man had been shot in the shoulder.

As officers attempted to put Cody in a police car, he "started to thrash around" and attempted to head-butt officers, according to the affidavit. He then allegedly bit an officer on the arm after being placed in the patrol car.

Detectives learned that the fight began after one of the victims heard Cody "yelling and causing a disturbance" outside his apartment. The man walked out to see what was happening and took his gun with him.

The man confronted Cody and told him to quiet down. Cody then moved toward the man "in an aggressive manner" and a fight ensued, according to police. The man told police that Cody grabbed his throat, bit his finger, slammed his head to the ground several times, and gained control of the man's gun and fired three shots, the affidavit states.

A second man then joined in to help the first man and was also bitten by Cody, causing a serious injury, police wrote in the affidavit. After the first man was able to break free from Cody, he said he realized he had been shot.

Cody was taken into custody after police arrived.
