SALT LAKE CITY — Police in West Valley City and Salt Lake City were looking Wednesday for three to four men believed to be involved in a carjacking and shooting that happened within 15 minutes of each other and may be related.

About 4:10 a.m., four men went up to a car waiting in line at a McDonald's drive-thru, 3464 W. 3500 South, and took the customer's vehicle at gunpoint, according to a statement from West Valley police. No injuries were reported.

An estimated 15 minutes later, three people believed to be from the same group went into an apartment at 764 N. 900 West and shot a 24-year-old man in the leg, according to Salt Lake police. The man was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Salt Lake police believe the victim was targeted and the shooting was not random.

Anyone with information about the carjacking or shooting is asked to call police at 801-799-3000 or 801-840-4100.
