BOUNTIFUL — A 58-year-old man died shortly after being located in Holbrook Canyon by Davis County search and rescue crews early Sunday.
The man was reported overdue after he had not been seen since 11 a.m. Saturday after setting out on a hike in Holbrook Canyon, Davis County sheriff's spokeswoman Stephanie Dinsmore said.
The Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was able to locate the man through GPS coordinates not far off the trail. When search and rescue arrived, the man was unconscious but breathing, Dinsmore said.
A medical helicopter was called to hoist the man out, but then "his vitals completely dipped and he became deceased," Dinsmore said.
The man was carried by search and rescue teams off the mountain where his body was then sent to a medical examiner.
"We're not exactly sure what led to it, if it was exposure or if there was an incident," Dinsmore said.
The man's identity has not yet been released.
