WEST JORDAN — A man allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident was shot and critically injured by police Sunday after being confronted by officers.
West Jordan police were called about 9 p.m. to a mobile home park near 8400 South and 4000 West on a report of a man with a gun involved in a domestic violence episode. The man was behaving in a "threatening manner," according to West Jordan Deputy Police Chief Rich Bell.
When officers arrived, there was some sort of confrontation outside of a mobile home and Pedro Cortes-Villalon, 36, was shot by an officer, Bell said. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Other details about what prompted the officer to fire have not been released. No other injuries were reported. A gun was recovered by police from the scene, West Jordan police confirmed Monday.
The officer-involved shooting investigation will be led by the West Valley City Police Department.
