OGDEN — A man who police believe tried to help cover up a killing in Ogden has been arrested.
Barry Lenard Bingham, 41, of Bluffdale, was charged Tuesday in 2nd District Court with two counts of obstructing justice, a second-degree felony.
On Oct. 2, just after midnight, police were called to an apartment at 240 N. 180 East where a 30-year-old man was found deceased with a gunshot wound. The man's identity had not been released as of Tuesday.
The gunman, who has not yet been charged, fled in a car that he abandoned in Perry, according to police.
"When the vehicle was recovered it appeared it had been sprayed inside and outside with a liquid substance, possibly bleach. The interior and exterior of the vehicle also appeared as though it had been wiped down. This is a method used to destroy or corrupt evidence," the charges state.
Detectives developed information that Bingham was the person who sprayed the vehicle with "cleanser for the purpose of destroying evidence of the homicide," according to the charges.
Police also believe that Bingham took the gunman to an undisclosed location in southern Utah after the shooting in order to avoid arrest.
Investigators located Bingham in Ogden on Friday and arrested him after pulling him over.
