SANDY — Police on Monday released the identity of a woman who was hit by a semitruck and killed last week moments after the motorcycle she was on crashed.

Jordan Stern, 30, of Salt Lake City, was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle on I-15 near 8700 South about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when the motorcycle began to fishtail for an unknown reason, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The man driving laid the bike down, causing Stern and the driver to be separated.

Investigators believe Stern was subsequently hit by at least two semis who either did not see her or could not avoid hitting her.

The man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

The crash forced the closure of the freeway in that area for several hours as UHP troopers investigated.
