OGDEN — One person was killed in a crash on state Route 39 in Ogden Canyon Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:21 p.m. near milepost 11, about 3 miles east of Ogden, temporarily closing both sides of the highway, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

An eastbound Subaru attempting to pass another car crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a truck pulling a horse trailer. The Subaru was pushed back into the eastbound lane where it struck the vehicle it tried to pass, troopers said.

The driver of the Subaru died from injuries after the crash, and one horse from the trailer had to be put down on scene.

S.R. 39 reopened about 5:45 p.m.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
