AMERICAN FORK — Authorities have identified a motorcyclist who died in American Fork Canyon on May 16.
The motorcyclist was identified as Nick L. Walker, of Saratoga Springs, according to the Utah Highway Patrol on Monday.
The motorcycle crashed on state Route 92 near American Fork around 3:10 a.m. on May 16, according to a statement released by the Department of Public Safety. Walker was westbound and failed to take a turn, the department said.
He was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene of the accident, the department said.
Lone Peak Fire District firefighters and medics responded to the scene, where Walker and the motorcycle ended up in the river, Lone Peak Fire District said.
Lone Peak Fire District also gave the following warning, "Summer and motorcycle riding season is here. Please wear a helmet and appropriate riding clothing. If you are in a passenger vehicle, please watch for motorcycles."
American Fork Canyon was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the crash. The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
