SALT LAKE CITY — Over a million Utahns are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, health officials reported Friday.
A total of 1,014,231 Utahns are considered fully vaccinated as of Friday, according to the Utah Department of Health. That's about 31.6% of the state's total population, the health department reported.
A total of 2,261,285 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, up from 2,242,271 Thursday. A total of 1,338,911 Utahns have at least one dose of the vaccine, and 2,707,493 doses have been shipped to the state so far.
About 41.8% of Utah's total population has now received at least a first dose of the vaccine. Among Utahns age 16 and older who are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, about 56.3% have at least a first dose and 42.6% are fully vaccinated, state data shows.
Utah's number of COVID-19 cases increased by 386 on Friday, with four more deaths and 19,014 vaccinations reported, according to the health department.
The health department estimates there are now 7,973 active cases of the disease in Utah. Friday marked the first time that estimate has been under 8,000 since September last year.
The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 349, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the "people over people" method is now 6.7%. The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the "test over test" method is now 3.5%.
There are 137 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 55 in intensive care, state data shows. About 72% of all intensive care unit beds in Utah hospitals are filled as of Friday, including about 75% of ICU beds in the state's 16 referral hospitals. About 58% of non-ICU hospital beds are now occupied in the state, health department data shows.
The new numbers indicate a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,594,327 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 15.4% have tested positive for the disease. The number of total tests conducted since Utah's pandemic began is now 4,718,711, up 11,311 since Thursday. Of those, 5,450 were tests of people who hadn't previously been tested for COVID-19.
The four deaths reported Friday were:
- A Kane County woman who was over the age of 85 and was not hospitalized when she died
- Two Salt Lake County men who were between the ages of 65 and 84 and were hospitalized when they died
- A Weber County man who was between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized when he died
One of the deaths reported Friday occurred before April 1 but was still being investigated, the health department said. The agency didn't say which death was still being investigated.
Friday's totals give Utah 399,760 total confirmed cases, with 16,323 total hospitalizations and 2,223 total deaths from the disease. An estimated 389,564 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, according to the health department.
