ST. GEORGE — Thieves have targeted homes under construction in St. George, but what they stole has baffled law enforcement.

"It feels a little strange that this has happened to a couple of homes in our area," said officer Tiffany Redford.

So far, thieves broke into the unfinished homes and took some interesting items including toilets, tubs, faucets, garbage disposals, refrigerators, dishwashers, a pebble ice maker, hand towel bars, hooks, and paper towel holders.

You could say they took everything but the kitchen sink, but that was actually stolen, too.

"A sink, bathroom vanity cabinets, countertop, a quartz countertop," said Redford.

Anything from doorknobs to dishwashers, the thieves didn't discriminate and police said they can't figure out why.

"To go through and cut out appliances or to take doorknobs, just take the time to take these things, you know it makes you wonder, are they building a house and they're putting it in their own home? I don't know what they're doing," said Redford.

Police estimated the thieves took about $10,000 in items from each of the homes. They said doors were locked in both cases, but the culprits broke in through the garage.

"Have cameras up. Spend that couple hundred dollars to put them on your new construction home," recommended Redford. "It's frustrating. It's super frustrating."

Police said the break-ins happened in different parts of town on different nights, but they are trying to determine if they're related.

Anyone with information has been asked to call the St. George Police Department.
