SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's number of COVID-19 cases increased by 487 on Tuesday, with nine more deaths and 20,268 more vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Two of those deaths occurred before Feb. 9 but were still being investigated by the state medical examiner's office, the health department said. There are now an estimated 16,293 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah, state data shows.
The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 603, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that time period reported with the "people over people" method is now 10.5%. The positive test rate per day seven-day average calculated with the "test over test" method is now 4.9%.
There are 213 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 92 in intensive care units, state data shows. About 67% of all intensive care unit beds in Utah are occupied Tuesday, including about 71% of ICU beds in the state's 16 referral hospitals. About 46% of non-ICU hospital beds are now occupied in Utah.
A total of 741,297 vaccines have been administered in the state, up from 721,029 Monday. Of those, 263,173 are second doses of the vaccine.
The new numbers indicate a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Monday. Of the 2,214,506 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.8% have tested positive for COVID-19. The number of total tests conducted since the beginning of the pandemic is now 3,828,322, up 14,540 from Monday. Of those, 5,582 are tests of people who had not previously been tested for COVID-19, according to state data.
The nine deaths reported Tuesday include:
- A Davis County man who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was not hospitalized when he died
- A Salt Lake County woman who was over the age of 85 and was a resident of a long-term care facility
- A Salt Lake County woman who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when she died
- A Summit County man who was between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized when he died
- A Tooele County man who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when he died
- A Utah County man who was over the age of 85 and was a resident of a long-term care facility
- A Utah County man who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when he died
- A Washington County man who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was hospitalized when he died
- A Weber County woman who was between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized when she died
Tuesday's totals give Utah 371,979 total confirmed cases, with 14,753 total hospitalizations and 1,949 total deaths from the disease. An estimated 353,737 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, the health department reports.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox is scheduled to provide his weekly pandemic update at 11 a.m. Thursday, according to his office.
