MIDVALE — Unified police are investigating what led to a shooting outside a Midvale hotel that left a woman dead and a man hospitalized Friday night.
About 5:30 p.m. police began receiving calls about "an assault with a weapon, which very quickly became shots fired," said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler. "When officers arrived, they found several things. ... We found a woman in her late 30s. There was another male that was also shot. He ran into the WinCo."
Inside the WinCo, which is across the street from the Tru by Hilton Hotel, employees of the grocery store began administering first aid to the 36-year-old man. Police arrived to find the man seriously wounded.
"An officer came in and applied another tourniquet," Cutler said. "(That man) is currently in serious condition at IMC (in Murray)."
Cutler said police have few details and a very limited description of another couple they believe was involved or witnessed what happened.
"We don't have a whole lot of details," she said. "Witnesses said there was a male and female seen leaving the scene. The only description we have is that the male was wearing dark clothing and the female had on a floral shirt and jeans."
Police are also looking for a white Cadillac, around 2005, that was seen driving away around the time of the shooting.
"We don't know of their involvement, but we'd absolutely like to talk to those people to see what they saw and what they know about what occurred here," Cutler said. "It's very early in the investigation. We don't know if there was a relationship of any sort between both of the parties who were shot, or who may have done this, or what transpired."
A gun was found on the sidewalk about 25 feet from the driveway to the hotel.
"We have recovered a weapon," Cutler confirmed. "And so ... if there was another weapon involved, if there were multiple shooters, we don't know that yet."
