VERNAL — A late-night ride on an off-road vehicle turned tragic Sunday when a 25-year-old Ogden woman was killed in a rollover crash.

The crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. near the Iron Springs, according to the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. Emergency personnel were dispatched to Red Cloud Loop Road and found a side-by-side about 40 feet down a steep embankment.

There were three people in the side-by-side. Medical personnel tried to render lifesaving aid to the woman, but she died at the scene. "The driver and other passenger sustained minor cuts and bruises as a result of the crash," officials wrote.

"Investigators believe the side-by-side was traveling east on the Red Cloud Loop Road when it went off the shoulder of the road, causing it to overturn and roll multiple times," the sheriff's office said. "Driver impairment is believed to be a factor into the cause of the crash."

The woman's name was not released Sunday; the crash is under investigation.
