East Fork Fire in Uinta wilderness 5% contained

The 2,752-acre East Creek Fire, which began burning near Rock Creek on Thursday, was only 5% contained on Monday.Southwest winds in the area made it unlikely the blaze would move down Rock Creek toward the Upper Stillwater Reservoir, fire officials said.Fire crews were working to secure the south edge Monday evening thanks to favorable weather.

Diamond Butte Fire near St. George 80% contained

The Diamond Butte Fire, which began burning Sunday 32 miles south of St. George, had been 80% contained as of Monday afternoon.The estimated 545-acre fire was started by lightning and was no longer threatening structures on Monday.The area saw some rain — so much so that it caused flash floods in St. George Sunday — which helped suppress the fire and on Monday the smoldering fire had minimal activity with only one engine assigned to the blaze.— Lauren Bennett, KSL.com

Greenville Fire in Beaver County 100% contained

The lightning-caused Greenville Fire was 100% contained on Monday afternoon, fire officials said.The 1,100-acre blaze began burning east of Minersville on Saturday.— Lauren Bennett, KSL.com

Second blaze sparks near Gray Hill Fire in Millard County

A second, separate fire has sparked in the Gray Hill area where a large wildfire has been burning already. The Gray Hill 2 Fire is burning about 22 miles west of Black Rock in Millard County, state and federal fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info. The Gray Hill 2 Fire is estimated at 800 acres and is thought to be caused by lightning.

Cowboy Fire in Sevier County now 25% contained

The Cowboy Fire, burning north of I-70 in the northeast corner of Sevier County, is now 25% contained, state and federal fire officials reported Monday through Utah Fire Info. The fire was last reported at 435 acres and is believed to be human-caused, officials said.

East Fork Fire in Duchesne County grows to 2,752 acres

The East Fork Fire, burning in the High Uintas Wilderness in Duchesne County, has grown to 2,752 acres as of Monday, state and federal fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info. The fire is believed to be lightning-caused and is 0% contained as of Monday, officials said. The Rock Creek and upper Blind Stream areas, as well as the Yellowpine Campground, have been evacuated. Several other road closures are in place in the area. For more information on the closures, visit inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7052.Inside the wilderness area, the fire is playing its natural role in the forest ecosystem and is being allowed to burn until rain or snow puts it out, officials said. Wildfires are necessary to maintain the health of the forest in that area. Outside of the wilderness area, fire crews are constructing containment lines to prevent fire growth to the south. Five helicopters, five engines and three ground crews, totalling 174 personnel, are currently assigned to the blaze.
