TOOELE — The historic Broadway Hotel in Tooele burst into flames early Sunday morning, officials report.
Tooele Fire Chief Chris Shubert said crews arrived at around 7:30 a.m. to find the vacant building showing heavy flames and smoke.
Forty-five firefighters from Tooele, North Tooele, Grantsville and Tooele Army Depot assisted with suppressing the fire at 145 N. Broadway Ave.
Our crews, along with Tooele City Fire, Grantsville Fire, and Tooele Army Depot worked hard this morning to put out a fire at an historic hotel in Tooele today. We’re proud of all of the firefighters in our community for the way the team up and work together. pic.twitter.com/VEe48jEgdd

The apartment building next to the hotel was evacuated as a precaution with the amount of smoke.
Shubert said the building was supposed to be preserved, but it sustained substantial damage.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but officials say it is suspicious.
