WEST VALLEY CITY — One person is in the hospital and another in police custody following a shooting at a birthday party.

An argument broke out between Omar Cortez Izarraras, 21, and another person at 2368 S. 1360 West just after midnight Sunday morning, according to West Valley City police.

Izarraras pulled out a gun and shot the victim multiple times, according to a probable cause statement. He fled the scene with another unidentified male.

Witnesses identified Izarraras at the scene and provided additional information leading to his arrest. The victim was also able to identify Izarraras at the hospital, police said.

"Omar was arrested, interviewed and ultimately booked in jail," read the statement.

Izarraras was booked on investigation of murder and eight counts of felony discharge of a firearm.
