OREM — A man has died after being hit by a car Saturday night in Orem, officials said Tuesday.
The accident occurred on I-15 near Center Street in Orem, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. Trooper Chad Valdez said investigators initially believed the man was struck while walking on the shoulder; but after further investigation, it appears as though he was walking in the road lane.
Investigators have determined that it is likely the man died by suicide, UHP Lt. Nick Street said Tuesday. The man's name was not released.
Northbound I-15 was closed for just over two hours as a medical helicopter transported the man to the hospital in critical condition. The road has since been reopened.

Warning signs of suicide
- Talking about wanting to die
- Looking for a way to kill oneself
- Talking about feeling hopeless or having no purpose
- Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain
- Talking about being a burden to others
- Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs
- Acting anxious, agitated or recklessly
- Sleeping too little or too much
- Withdrawing or feeling isolated
- Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
- Displaying extreme mood swings
The more of these signs a person shows, the greater the risk. Warning signs are associated with suicide but may not be what causes a suicide.
