SALT LAKE CITY — Three people are in serious condition after being injured Sunday in a fiery morning crash at 900 West and North Temple.
Salt Lake Police Lt. Brett Olsen said a westbound Tesla with two male passengers ran into a northbound sedan with one female inside. Indications are the Tesla was moving quickly and ran a red light, Olsen said.
All three people involved were originally transported to area hospitals in critical condition. As of Monday, they were all in serious but stable condition, according to Salt Lake Police Sgt. Keith Horrocks.
Police originally said impairment was not suspected in the crash. But on Monday, Horrocks said they planned to pursue a DUI case against Joseph Lucero, 35, in connection with the crash.
It was not clear if Lucero had been arrested as of Monday afternoon.
Olsen said a hazmat truck also responded to the scene to deal with the Tesla's electric battery, which he said was "exploding" at the scene.
