SARATOGA SPRINGS — There will be an extra police presence at Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs on Monday due to a possible social media threat that was made to the school.

The social media posts appear to be a hoax, according to a Facebook post from the Westlake Student Body. They were “circulated around the community,” the post said. An investigation later determined the threat was not credible, according to a Facebook post from Westlake High School Principal Gary Twitchell.

Saratoga Springs police and Alpine School District officials were notified, the post said.

A shelter-in-place was conducted as the threat was being investigated, according to the student body’s post. As of 9 a.m., the shelter-in-place was lifted, the post said.

Exterior doors were locked while school and police officials were stationed at entrances. School proceeded as normal, but students stayed in their classrooms, Twitchell said.

Police investigated the situation as a false report, according to Saratoga Springs City spokesman David Johnson. A parent reported to the school their student had seen the possible threat on Snapchat, he said.

No other information about the situation was immediately available.
