MURRAY — A man is dead after police say he entered a home uninvited and was shot by the homeowner Sunday evening.

A man entered a home at 440 E. 5900 South without permission shortly before 7 p.m., according to Murray police officer Ken Bass. The homeowner then shot the man, Bass said.

“At this point, it’s unknown if it was forced,” Bass said. “Either way it was an unwanted entry, and it appears the homeowner confronted that individual and fired shots at him.”

The man was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, Bass said. His identity has not been released.

Officials don’t believe the man and the homeowner knew each other. The homeowner is cooperating with authorities, Bass confirmed.

Police are also looking for a vehicle they say responding officers saw speed off when they arrived.
