VERNAL — A male juvenile has been charged in connection with a fatal September stabbing in Vernal, police said Thursday.

The juvenile, who was not identified, was formally charged Thursday in 8th District Juvenile Court. He faces one count of criminal homicide aggravated murder, two counts of attempted criminal homicide aggravated murder and one count of aggravated burglary, police said.

The stabbing occurred on the morning of Sept. 13 at a home near Ashley Regional Medical Center at 150 W. 100 North when a male who was not known to the family forcibly entered the home, police said.

The person, who was wearing all black clothing at the time, stabbed three people inside the home multiple times, according to police.

After the stabbing, Kyle and Kathy Reynolds were treated in Vernal for extensive injuries, police said on Thursday. Cal Dee Reynolds, 84, was airlifted to a hospital in the Wasatch Front area, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.

The juvenile was jailed for investigation of unrelated charges shortly after the stabbing, police said.
