Places in Utah to celebrate New Year's Eve

SALT LAKE CITY — As 2018 closes in, the question of how to celebrate New Year's Eve lingers on people’s minds. Here are some events happening around Utah on Dec. 31 to ring in the new year.

Cox & Friends

Utah's Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, and his wife Abby, have invited folks to join the Cox & Friends podcast crew for a night of karaoke, tacos and mingling. Hosted at 21 G Street from 7-9 p.m. Cost of admission: None. Bring canned food or clothing for homeless providers to share with those experiencing homelessness. RSVP requested.

Zoo Lights at the Hogle Zoo

For families with children who need to be asleep before midnight, Zoo Lights provides an excellent option. They will be hosting an early countdown to the New Year, as well as a dance party so kids can join in the fun. Their dance party will run from 7-9 p.m. Kids will be given noisemakers at 8 p.m. and they will countdown to 9 p.m. Admittance costs $9.95 for adults, $7.95 for children (3-12), $8.95 for seniors (65+), and free for children under two.

Last Hurrah SLC

Last Hurrah is a Salt Lake City-hosted New Year’s Eve event which replaced Eve SLC, a long-standing tradition, in 2017. Hosted at The Gateway, this year’s celebration will have live music on two stages all night, a game room for those of all ages, a karaoke lounge, a pop-up speakeasy bar, late shows at the Clark Planetarium, and food trucks. This event will end with a firework show at midnight and is free.

Alta’s New Years Torchlight Parade, Fireworks, and Bonfire

Alta will be hosting its traditional New Year’s celebration from 5:15-6:15 p.m. on Dec. 31. The event will include a torchlit parade, fireworks and a bonfire. Season pass holders get free entrance, and guests can buy a $10 ticket allowing access to one ride on Collins lift, beginning at 5:15 p.m. and ending with last chair at 6:15 p.m.

Kid-Friendly New Years Events in Davis County

There is a wide range of New Years activities for kids in Davis County. There will be events and deals, from hikes, to parties at Boondocks and discounts at Classic Fun Center.

Snowbird’s New Years Torchlight Parade and fireworks

Meet at Snowbird’s Plaza Deck for the torchlight parade and fireworks from 6-6:30 p.m., and hang around for fire pits and hot cocoa until 7. Continue on the celebrations at Snowbird’s host of dining options and nightlife after the parade. This event is free.

Provo’s Countdown to the Greatest Show

Provo will be hosting a circus to celebrate the new year at the Provo Recreation Center at 320 W. 500 North. There will be acrobats, fireworks, casino rooms, face painting, food, laser tag, and multiple stages with live entertainment. The festivities begin at 7 p.m. and will last until midnight. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors.

Utah Valley New Years

The Utah Valley New Years party will celebrate with one of Utah’s biggest parties at the UCCU Events Center at 800 W. University Pkwy., Orem. The party will include dancing, a rock climbing wall, food trucks, inflatables and free stuff. The festivities begin at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will end at 1 a.m. on Jan. 1. Tickets are $15-$35. Park City New Year’s Eve Celebration

Visit the Canyon’s Village for their yearly New Years celebration, which will include live music, hot cocoa, fire pits, fireworks, and more. This is a great, family-friendly spot.

Continue the fun at Canyon’s Village at the Annual Black & White Masquerade starting at 8 p.m.. This event will be hosted by New York DJ Ross One and tickets need to be purchased in advance.

Deer Valley Resort’s Torchlight Parade

Deer Valley’s annual torchlight parade will be held on Dec. 30. Visitors can watch skiers fly down the Big Stick ski run to Snow Park Lodge at 6 p.m.. Hot cider and cookies will be provided. The event is free. For more information call: 435-649-1000.

Roaring Twenties New Year’s Eve Party

If you’re looking for a fancier and more expensive way to enjoy the night, come to the Grand Summit Hotel in Park City from 5:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve through 1 a.m. on Jan. 1. Delicious dinner and entertainment are included with the ticket cost. Book tickets in advance here: $169 for adults and $99 for children 12 and under.

Brian Head’s New Year’s Eve Bash

Brian Head will be hosting events at the Giant Steps Lodge from 3 p.m. New Year's Eve until 12:30 a.m., Jan. 1. Attendees can night ski from 4:30-9 p.m., and the resort's classic torchlight parade will be held at 6:30. Fireworks will be launched at 6:45, and there will be live music at the Last Chair Saloon. The Ledges Masquerade

This event will be held at the Ledges Resort in St. George from 8 p.m. Dec. 31, until 1 a.m. Jan. 1, featuring live music by a local band, appetizers, raffles, games, champagne toasts, and a midnight balloon drop. Tickets must be bought in advance and attendees must be over the age of 21.
