PLEASANT GROVE — A child has died after being struck by an automobile in Pleasant Grove, police confirmed Monday night.

The 12-year-old boy was crossing Pleasant Grove Boulevard, headed south, when a "large construction type truck" made a right turn from State Street onto the boulevard and hit the child, Pleasant Grove Police Capt. Britt Smith said in a Facebook post.

The accident occurred just after 6 p.m. The boy was in a crosswalk and it appears the truck driver did not see him, Smith said.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved, police said.

Police are investigating the cause of the collision but were calling it a “tragic accident” Monday night and urging drivers to "please drive safely out there."
