SALT LAKE CITY — A man who crashed his scooter into a parked car in Salt Lake City over the weekend has died, officials said.

The man, in his mid-60s, was riding a privately-owned, electric scooter about 1:30 p.m. Saturday when he crashed into a parked car near the intersection of 400 South and 300 West, according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Jenn Diederich.

A bystander performed CPR on the man before he was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Diederich said. The man suffered head trauma during the crash and, despite surgery, died Sunday, according to Salt Lake detective Rob Ungricht.

Police were unsure how fast the man was going when he crashed.

The victim's identity and the exact date of his death have not yet been released.
