SALT LAKE CITY — Nine wildfires are burning across Utah Friday, according to Utah Fire Info.

The fires are threatening structures and roads.

Rough Canyon Fire (southwest of Portage, Box Elder County)

The Rough Canyon Fire, which has burned more than 8.5 square miles in Box Elder County, has slowed down Friday evening. The fire started on Wednesday and was human-caused, according to Utah fire officials.

Dry Canyon Fire near Parowan is nearly contained

The Dry Canyon Fire, burning along state Route 143 near Parowan in Washington County, was 95 percent contained as of Friday evening, according to Bureau of Land Management Spokesman Nickolas Howell. The fire started on Wednesday afternoon and has burned 23 acres, or about 23 football fields, a mile south of Parowan. There are no closures and no structures threatened due to this fire, Howell said.

Black Mountain Fire near Minersville is 30 percent contained

The Black Mountain Fire, burning near Minersville in Beaver County, is 30 percent contained, officials said Friday. It is burning along state Route 130, about three miles south of Minersville. The fire started on Thursday afternoon and is burning just under 6,000 acres, or about 9.4 square miles, Bureau of Land Management Spokesman Nickolas Howell said in an emailed statement. It was caused by a car accident, according to Howell. One cabin and a communication tower were being threatened by the fire as of Friday evening, and it remained near the town of Minersville, Howell said. All people driving into the fire area will need to be escorted by fire personnel.

The Willow Patch Fire in Sevier County has caused the closure of state Route 24 from the state Route 119 junction to the state Route 62 junction.

Willow Patch Fire in Sevier County burns 200 acres

A fire in Sevier County, named the Willow Patch Fire, has burned 200 acres, or slightly less than a third of a square mile, Utah wildfire officials say. The fire is spreading to the north and aircraft are being used to fight the flames, Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands spokesman Jason Curry said. Officials were looking into a car as the cause of the fire, Curry added.

Fire in Sevier County forces closure of state Route 24

A new fire in Sevier County forced the closure of state Route 24 from the state Route 119 junction to the state Route 62 junction. Both directions of the roadway are closed.

West Valley Fire caused by abandoned campfire (near New Harmony, Washington County)

The West Valley Fire, which sparked Thursday in southern Utah, has reached about 7,200 acres in size. It is at zero percent containment, according to Forest Service spokeswoman Sierra Hellstrom. The fire was caused by an abandoned campfire, Hellstrom said in an emailed statement. There have been no evacuations or injuries, but 10 homes near the Mill Flat Trailhead are potentially threatened. A Red Flag warning remains in effect until midnight on Saturday. The hot, dry and windy weather is expected to create containment challenges for firefighters. "A temporary area closure has been put in place by the Dixie National Forest. The closure is from the Forest boundary west of New Harmony, and specifically lying west of Forest Road 029, the National Forest Boundary and the Pine Valley Wilderness Boundary, North of Pine Valley Wilderness Boundary, the Summit Trail and the Canal Trail, East of the Forest Road 011, and South of Forest Road 009. Forest Road 011 and Forest Road 035 to 4011 are closed," the statement read. The Pine Valley Campground and Pine Valley Reservoir are still open.

Black Mountain Fire (near Minersville, Beaver County)

The Black Mountain Fire slowed down Thursday night but is expected to become active again Friday as strong winds blow across Utah, according to Black Mountain Fire spokesman Nick Howell.
