Raymond Kapongo, of St. George, who turned 23 on Thursday, was charged on his birthday with unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony.
Kapongo, who worked at the Teriyaki Grill, 974 W. Sunset Blvd., was the girl's shift leader, according to both charging documents and a pair of unsealed search warrant affidavits filed in 5th District Court. The girl was 15 when the first sexual contact happened and later turned 16, the charges state.
The alleged sexual activity also happened at Kapongo's house, according to the charges.
The investigation began in July when police received a tip that the two, "were having sex in the bathroom of the restaurant," the warrants state.
A search warrant served Aug. 2 stated that "the company found out about them having intercourse and suspended Raymond." But a warrant served on Aug. 8 stated, "the company found out about them having intercourse and transferred Raymond to another location."
He is scheduled to make an initial appearance in court on Tuesday.
