(KSL News) The motorist who hit and killed a Salt Lake City teenager last year has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.
Theodore Jorgensen will be sentenced in November for the death of 17-year-old Lauren Mulkey. She graduated early from East High School and enrolled at Westminster College. In March 2007, Jorgensen ran a red light in Salt Lake City and broadsided Mulkey, killing her.
Police say he was distracted while driving, but it's unclear why. He may have been using a cell phone, although police never have confirmed that.
Jorgensen could spend a year behind bars, but Mulkey's family is requesting probation and community service.
