Drivers who use the HOV and express lanes on I-15 in Utah County may notice some changes. Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) crews are moving some of the lane entrance and exit locations.

The HOV lane has been operational in Utah County for a couple of years now. UDOT has decided to make improvements to how cars enter and exit the lane. But it may create a little confusion for drivers.

As we drove I-15 today, we saw signs indicating HOV lane access, even though there were double white lines there. Also, in some areas motorists see a dotted line but no sign indicating access.

UDOT says crews have begun repainting the lines on the freeway for the HOV lane and are moving some of the in and out locations in Utah County. They're also trying to make the signs clearer so drivers will know when and where they can enter or exit the HOV lane.

UDOT Spokesman Scott Thompson said, "We're constantly looking at the traffic counts and how many people are getting in and out. I imagine over time, as the HOV lanes get extended, we'll look at it. It's an evolving process. Traffic patterns change. We hope this will work out better and be more convenient for everyone who uses the HOV lanes."

The work will happen overnight, so the impact to traffic should be minimal. Crews have started at the Point of the Mountain and are working south to University Parkway. Then they will move to the northbound lanes.

UDOT expects to have all of the work finished in the next six weeks or so. It believes these changes will help improve traffic flow along I-15 in Utah County.
