An elderly man was flown to the hospital in serious condition after an automatic car wash collapsed on his car near 10200 South and Redwood Rd.

Witnesses said the driver pulled up to the automatic car wash, put change in the machine and started pulling his car forward. Then he veered sideways and his car hit the machine. It then collapsed and fell on his car.

Witnesses say the man dropped something in his car, reached down to retrieve it and accidentally pushed the accelerator instead of the brake.

South Jordan fire Capt. Nathan Morreale said the 4,000-pound car wash machine didn't crush the man's car, but they had to brace the machine to get the man out.

We don't know what type of injuries the man suffered.
