SALT LAKE CITY — Christmas can be a busy holiday, and situations may arise where you may need to head out to receive help or where to eat.
Obviously, emergency services remain open throughout the holiday, just in case there’s an immediate emergency. However, if there’s other less-immediate emergencies — such as a meal mishap or perhaps forgetting to get a family member a gift — there are a couple of places that remain open on the holiday.
Some people may opt just to eat out on Christmas, and there are options for that, as well.
Many department stores, like Wal-Mart and Target, will be closed this Sunday. In fact, Wal-Mart even announced it will close at 6 p.m. Saturday — two hours earlier than it previously closed on Christmas Eve. Many other stores and chains will also close. However, not every business will be closed for Christmas.
Also of note, U.S. Mail will be delivering packages on Sunday. The absolute last day to send a package to arrive on Christmas is Friday.
In moments of uncertainty, it’s best to call a business in advance to check to see if it is open or not.
Here are some of the chains that will be open on Christmas Day:
CVS: 24-hour pharmacies and stores located at 3148 W. 3500 South in West Valley City and 4240 Harrison Blvd. in Ogden will be open. Other 24-hour stores across the state will be open, though with possible different holiday hours. Check with managers of particular stores to see if they are open on Christmas Day and what times they are open.
Stores located inside Target buildings will be closed.
Family Dollar: Most locations open. Check with a manager for exact hours before heading out.
Rancho Markets: Open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Locations in Heber, Kearns, Magna, Ogden, Provo, Salt Lake City and West Valley City.
Rite Aid: Many stores plan to be open. Check with a manager for exact hours before heading out.
Walgreens: All 24-hour Walgreens will be open on Christmas, though many have holiday hours. Check with a manager before heading out.
7-Eleven: Most locations open. Check with a manager for exact hours before heading out.
Restaurants
Buca di Beppo: Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Day. Location: 202 W. 300 South in Salt Lake City.
Denny’s: Most locations will be open all day Sunday. The restaurant has 16 locations across the state. According to the company, Christmas is the busiest day of its year.
Golden Corral: Participating locations open on Christmas Day. Check with a manager to see if a location is participating and for hours before heading out. The restaurant chain has six locations throughout Utah.
IHOP: All 19 locations in Utah will be open on Christmas Day. Check with a manager of nearest location for exact hours.
Marie Callender’s: Open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Day. Locations: 1600 N. 1000 West in Layton and 1109 E. 3900 South in Salt Lake City.
Village Inn: Open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Day at most locations. Logan and St. George locations will be closed for the holiday.
Wingers: Open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Locations include: Cedar City, Kaysville, Murray, Orem, Salt Lake City, St. George, West Jordan and West Valley City.
