WEST VALLEY CITY — A man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting in West Valley City late Monday night.

Police were called to a home at 7174 W. Bendixon Drive around 11:30 p.m, where they found the two victims.

West Valley City police spokeswoman Roxanne Vianuku said man Javier Medina, 20, of West Valley City was already deceased, having "suffered multiple gunshot wounds."

The 32-year-old woman, who was not named by police, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Lt. Steve Burke of the West Valley City Police Department.

Police said it appears the woman and Medina knew each other and the incident was likely targeted.

Family members were gathered at the home at the time of the shooting. Burke said police do have a lead on a possible suspect, but interviewing witnesses has been difficult.

"You've got a very emotional family, obviously. One of their loved ones has been killed. So trying to get stories out of those people is difficult at times just because you're dealing with their emotions," Burke said.

Investigators interviewed witnesses through the night, but Vianuku said they had not uncovered a motive for the shooting as of Monday evening. They do believe several individuals were involved in the shooting.

Anyone with information that might be helpful to the investigation is asked to contact the West Valley City Police Department at 801-840-4000.
