SALT LAKE CITY — A man was taken into custody in Idaho in connection with a Utah homicide investigation, police said Thursday.

Rodney Neil Maxwell was apprehended at a motel in Garden City, Idaho, Salt Lake City police confirmed. Garden City Police Department assisted in the arrest. Police said Maxwell is the final person of interest in the Jason Nakonechni homicide investigation.

On Wednesday, a medical examiner confirmed that the body discovered in Tooele County earlier in the week was that of Nakonechni, 38, who was reported missing on Sept. 18.

Four people had previously been arrested in connection with the investigation. Marilee Joann Borden, 43, Corey Lee Petersen, 53, and Michael Shane Snyder, 40, were arrested individually over the past two weeks and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Allison Wells, 37, was arrested Tuesday night for investigation of aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

A Salt Lake County Jail report says Nakonechni was lured into a Salt Lake motel and was beaten. Police said the victim was then taken from the Salt Lake motel to an undisclosed location in West Valley City where the assault continued and the man was robbed of many of his personal belongings, including his car and his dog.

The booking report states the victim was taken to a remote location in Tooele County and killed.

SLCPD said they will work with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office in order to extradite Maxwell back to Utah.
