PROVO, Utah (AP) — Utah County health officials say at least eight people have fallen ill after interactions in Utah Lake, which has a potentially toxic algae bloom.

The Daily Herald of Provo [reported](<http://bit.ly/29RbUZu >) Saturday that the Utah County Health Department has found several people have reported being sick due to exposure to lake water since July 10.

Their symptoms include diarrhea and vomiting.

Officials say one woman reported that her son woke up with a rash on 80 percent of his body after swimming there.

State officials issued a warning Thursday for people not to recreate on the lake because the bloom could contain harmful toxins.

Crews are running tests to determine whether it contains cyanobacteria.

The bloom extends from Provo Bay to Provo Harbor near the Utah Lake State Park.
