KEARNS — A 24-year-old West Valley man is dead following a shooting early Sunday morning, police said.

Police were dispatched to a report of the shooting near 5586 S. 4220 W. at approximately 4:06 a.m., according to Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell.

About 10 minutes later, police received a report from Jordan Valley Medical Center staff that a man had been brought to the hospital in a personal vehicle and that man was dead upon arrival, Bell said.

“They did try to revive him, but to no avail,” he said.

UPD identified the victim as Marvin Lopez of West Valley City.

Bell said a witness north of the area of where the shots were fired spotted a silver passenger car speeding away from the scene and traveling eastbound on 5400 South.

However, he said police were still working to determine an exact suspect description as of Sunday morning. Police are still investigating the shooting.

Bell added that anyone in the area that may have heard or seen anything related to the shooting should call UPD Dispatch at 801-743-7000.
