PROVO — A Provo man has been arrested after officers found his 57-year-old father’s body in a freezer, Provo police said Thursday night.

Officer Nisha King of the Provo Police Department said they were contacted at about 11:23 a.m. Thursday when the family of Marco Carmona reported him missing. When police searched Marco Carmona’s mobile home near 351 N. Geneva Road, they found his body in a freezer, King said.

After investigating further by interviewing the man’s family, his son, Omar Carmona, 27, was arrested and booked in to Utah County Jail at about 7 p.m. on suspicion of murder, theft and obstruction of justice, according to King.

"We do want to assure the public that investigators have the only suspect. There is no continuing danger to the public,” King said.

King said investigators believed Omar Carmona had taken his father’s wallet and his money, and added that he is the only suspect in the case.

“Our investigators have — through interviews and examination of all the evidence, they developed the probable cause to arrest Omar,” she said. “The matter remains under investigation by the Provo Police Department.”

King said Marco Carmona’s body has been sent to Utah State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death.

“This is obviously an awful tragedy for the family and a shocking circumstance for the community,” King said.
