GOSHEN, Utah County — Police say a body found Friday near U.S. 6 on the border of Utah and Juab counties is a Millard County woman missing since May 14.
Family members of Stacy Morrill, 52, were searching a mining area and called police around 3 p.m. to report they had found her naked body, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. It was located about 300 to 400 yards from U.S. 6 a few miles east of Eureka, Juab County.
There are so far no factors either indicating or ruling out foul play or a possible suicide, according to Cannon.
"We don’t have anything telling us even how she died,” he said.
Morrill had been deceased approximately "consistent with when she was last seen," Cannon said.
The sergeant explained the body had not been forensically identified, but that "information (from family members) makes it pretty clear that it’s her."
After she was last seen May 14, Morrill's Jeep Grand Cherokee was found abandoned along Dividend Road near U.S. 6, a few miles east of Eureka. Some clothing and items from Morrill's home were found strewn nearby, Cannon said.
Morrill's body was found about 2 miles away from the area where sheriff's office and Utah Department of Public Safety searchers used horseback crews and multiple aircraft to look for her Sunday and Monday, Cannon said. A search was also conducted in the area Wednesday using K-9 units.
Morrill, a realtor from the remote Millard County community of Oasis, had up to $3,000 with her when she left home during the evening of May 14, according to investigators. However, she had no debit or credit cards with her or a cellphone, Cannon has said.
The sergeant said Morrill and her husband had a "disagreement" just before she left home. Earlier this week, Cannon said Morrill "may be experiencing emotional stress."
Morrill's family members were shocked and saddened after her body was found Friday.
"It's just shocking," said Morrill's sister, Jennie Jackson. "We just don't understand what happened."
Ken Tanner, Morrill's father, said he was grateful to have closure about his daughter's whereabouts. Still, he was devastated.
"I'm glad we found her, but I'm not glad because of the condition she's in," Tanner said.
Morrill was a kind person who always stood up for the underdog, her father said.
"Stacey was one of the sweetest, nicest persons you know. … She just had a kind heart," Tanner said.
