CLEARFIELD — Police are dealing with several additional rape cases two days after appealing to the public for help to catch a serial rapist.

Clearfield Police Sgt. Kyle Jeffries said Wednesday detectives have learned of two more cases that they believe are connected to the 11 they originally listed during a Monday news conference.

At least four other rapes that were reported to the Clearfield Police Department in the past few days are not believed to be connected to the serial string, according to police.

Jeffries said those cases would also be investigated or referred to the jurisdictions in which they took place.

“Hopefully we’re helping somewhere — even if we’re not catching our guy,” Jeffries said.

Police said eight of the 11 initially connected cases, which span from 1991 to 2001, are linked by DNA. Investigators were working Wednesday evening to determine whether any DNA evidence existed in the two new linked cases.

One of the cases had been reported previously to police, Jeffries said. The other had gone unreported.

Both of the new cases, Jeffries said, occurred during the same 10-year-span as the others and occurred in locations between Ogden and Bountiful.

Jeffries said the two new cases also were similar to the others in terms of how they were committed.

“[In many of the cases] he told the victims, ‘If you ever report this, I’ll find out. I’ll come back, I obviously know where you live. I’ll kill you and I’ll kill your children,’” Jeffries said.

Police said Monday that the rapist had the know-how to enter through locked sliding-glass doors and was armed with a weapon — a knife, box cutter or even a gun with a silencer in two cases.

The man would blindfold and bind his victims and rape them repeatedly over the course of hours, even when other people were present inside the homes.

“He’s smooth, and he’s calm, and he does his thing, and (for) hours and hours while people are in the next room,” Jeffries said. “He’s extremely dangerous. I’m surprised he hasn’t killed anybody. I really am.”

Police, in addition to circulating a composite sketch drawn up after a case in 2001, have said the man was slender in early cases but developed a pot belly in later ones.

They said he was likely driving a dark-colored Firebird-type sedan with bucket seats, sheepskin seat covers, and a wood grain style on the front dash.

Police said they had received nearly 120 tips and leads since Monday, some coming from as far as South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois.
