SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The price of parking at the University of Utah is on the rise.
The school's board of trustees have approved raising the annual price of a pass to park in preferential lots from $120 to $132. The increase takes effect July 1 and will help pay for surcharges the Utah Transit Authority is placing on the university's for soaring diesel costs.
The higher price of parking is expected to keep some students from driving to campus. School officials say they can use public transportation or walk.
About a third of the school's students are already getting to campus without a car.
