SALT LAKE CITY — Sometimes, words fail. During those times, often actions are what people will remember.

This week for Make Your Week, we share four stories of people who were touched by the actions of others.

On grieving with another:

Laura K.

"Seven and a half years ago we were thrilled when we found out we were expecting a baby after dealing with infertility for more than four years. I was devastated when our baby girl was stillborn. My heart was broken, and I didn't realize I was dealing with baby blues along with the loss of my baby.

"Our extended family chipped in and gave us a gift card to buy a tree in her honor. We picked an ornamental Kwanzan cherry tree that blooms pink every spring. They have no idea how that has brought me peace and happiness through the years. It's my favorite tree in the yard. It was the perfect hug for me and let me know they were grieving with us."

On paying it forward:

Richelle G.

"I was in the drive thru at the Fort Union McDonald's early in the morning on Friday, the 13th — not the day you expect something good to happen. I was feeling tired and had a lot on my mind. I am a single mom, and I work two jobs to make ends meet. I love my life, but it is hard to keep up with the bills sometimes. And for that reason, I always have a bit of guilt whenever I buy fast food.

"The car in front of me was taking longer at the pay window than usual. I glanced at my watch, feeling stressed that I might be late for work. When they finished, I pulled up to pay, and to my surprise was told the woman in the car had paid for my meal. I was stunned. I said 'Why?' to the cashier. Her reply was short, sweet and priceless. She simply said, 'Angel.'

"I truly believe in earth angels who are here simply to brighten someone's day when they are struggling. Thank you, McDonald's earth angel. You made my month! And as soon as I am able, I will repay this kind act to someone else."

On a boy's generosity:

Irene W.

"Recently, I went into a copy center to have some copies made of a newsletter. I need to say that I have an obvious disability but am very independent and self-sufficient.

"When I went in, there was a little 5-year-old who was not feeling well at all with an infected tooth which had just been pulled. While his mother was getting my copies made he showed me his tooth. He had in his hand two crisp $2 bills so a total of $4. I received a little over a $1 in change, and my plan was to give the handsome little guy another $1 for his tooth.

"Before I had a chance to do it he handed me his crisp $2 bills. I tried to convince him that he needed them more than me but he still wanted me to have them. I did not want to discourage such a generous heart so I took them. What a giving heart for a 5-year-old. I can't wait to see what a wonderful young man he will become."

On a gift for a new family:

Mer N.

"My husband lost his job two days before we found out I was pregnant with our first child. The economy had just crashed, and he couldn't find a new job. I worked part time, and my husband was working any small jobs he could find to keep us afloat. I was in my third trimester and we were both feeling very anxious about the situation we were in.

"One evening, there was a knock on our apartment door. By the time we got to the door, there was no one there. They had left a lot of staple food items, a big box of diapers and a gift card to Wal-Mart. We never found out who did this for us, but I'll never forget it and hope to one day pay it forward to someone else in need."
