WASHINGTON (AP) — George Washington University says Apple CEO Tim Cook will deliver the school's commencement speech on the National Mall in May.
The university announced Wednesday that Cook will be the featured speaker and will receive an honorary doctorate for public service. Cook was invited to speak after he was nominated by GW students.
Cook joined Apple in 1998 and previously served as chief operating officer. Before that he was an executive at Compaq, Intelligent Electronics and IBM.
This month Apple became the first U.S. company to close trading with a market value above $700 billion.
George Washington University also will honor Antony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Carole Watson, former acting chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities, with honorary degrees.
