SALT LAKE CITY — Longtime KSL Newsradio host, Grant Nielsen, has announced he will retire from full-time work in March.

Nielsen announced his retirement Wednesday, stepping down from the anchor position on Utah’s Morning News he’s held for 21 years. Though he is retiring from full-time work, he will return after a break and remain a voice on the station during the day, rather than waking at 3 a.m. to report morning news with Amanda Dickson.

KSL Newsradio’s national news anchor and noon news host Brian Martin will take his place on Utah’s Morning News starting March 23. Martin has worked at KSL since 2010. Before coming to Utah, he won an Emmy for writing and producing in Los Angeles.

Nielsen said he is looking forward to new opportunities, traveling with his wife and having a regular schedule.

A Southern California native, Nielsen has worked at radio stations across the country, including Seattle, Chicago and Los Angeles. He said he has enjoyed being able to give Utahns their news each morning and cover such events as the Olympics. Overall, he said he has enjoyed working with news gatherers and reporters on broadcast, print and digital platforms in the newsroom.

"What I'll remember the most is the consistency and enjoyment of working with Amanda for so many years and with such a great group of news people who funnelled us that information for so many years," he said. "Really have a good feeling of camaraderie and respect. That's what I'll remember."
