SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was arrested Friday for having a sexual relationship with her 17-year-old dance student, police said.

Amber Telford, 33, owns Collette's Dancing School where she is also a dance teacher, according to jail documents. Telford began buying “clothing and other personal items” for one of her 17-year-old male students and developed a sexual relationship with him, the document said. She also paid his way to a dance competition in Disneyland for which other students were required to pay.

The victim was observed spending nights at Telford’s home and being picked up by her in the middle of the night, the document said. Telford would drive the 17-year-old to a church parking lot where they would engage in sexual activities, the jail document said.

Police said the relationship lasted from September to December. Telford’s husband hired a private investigator and on Nov. 28, the detective found Telford and the teen engaging in sexual activities inside the dance studio, the documents said.

The victim told police that he and Telford had sex seven times.

According to Telford’s biography on the dance studio website, she was previously a dancer for the Utah Jazz and also performed in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Telford was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail in connection with sexual activity with a minor.
